Beauty Will Survive – Northumbrian wildflowers
Listen to LESLEY WOOD:
Wildflowers that I’ve gathered over the past year have been pressed and used to make a contact print on paper coated with cyanotype chemicals. Additional effects were produced by spraying with water before exposure.
The species are not specifically endangered but I consider that all wildlife is under threat. I wanted to distort the image but express the hope that beauty will survive even the most severe environmental collapse. Nature is more resilient than we are.

I live in Newcastle and have an MA in Creative Practice from Leeds College of Art. My work aims to express love of nature and connection to place. It includes alternative process photography, letterpress and cyanotype printing, using a range of substrates, sometimes incorporating original text to extend the meaning and impact of the visual images, and the stories they hold.
